Jack J. Roberts was named head boys basketball coach at Glendale High School on January 24th, 1963. Upon getting the job Coach Roberts said, "I'm actually a fast-break man with reservations. I just imagine we'll try to strike a happy medium with a fast-break and moderate ball control. I'll certainly do everything I can to give Glendale a sound basketball program."
He played high school basketball at Buffalo High and then continued his playing career at Drury University in Springfield. The Panthers advanced to the NAIA Quarterfinals in 1947. He graduated from Drury on May 30th, 1949. Drury inducted him into its Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.
During World War II, he served in the Army earning Good Conduct Badges, a Distinguished Unit Badge, five Battle Stars, and left as a private first class.
Jack got his first coaching job at Camdenton High. Although, he went 7-23 in his first season, he finished with an overall record of 135-95 in eight years at the school. His lasting legacy will be leading the way in changing the school mascot and team colors in 1953. He asked the Minneapolis Lakers of the NBA for permission to use their name and colors.
After the '55-'56 season, Jack moved his family to Springfield to join the legendary Jim Ball at Central. He served as a coach at Central High and Study Junior High until getting the Glendale job in 1963.
In 21 years at Glendale, he never had a losing season! His teams captured five Ozark conference titles and seven regional/district championships. One of his most thrilling victories came in 1981, when his Falcons knocked off top ranked Parkview and future Missouri Tiger Greg Cavener 40-38 in overtime.
Coach Roberts announced his retirement from Glendale as a teacher and coach March 5th, 1984.
Inducted into the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame and the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 1993. In 2013, he was inducted into the Springfield Area Sports Hall of Fame.
Counting his junior varsity victories at Central, he won 601 games as a basketball coach.
He also served as an assistant baseball coach at Glendale and head baseball coach at Central.
In 1982, he coached the Glendale boys tennis team to a state championship!

Mike Keltner started his coaching career by returning to his alma mater Hillcrest in the fall of 1974. He remained there as a freshman and junior varsity coach for eight years. In 1983, Roy Green left Glendale to take over at Kickapoo, which opened up a position on Jack Roberts staff at Glendale.
In his one season as Glendale's junior varsity coach, his team went 20-2 and won the city title.
In fifteen seasons as head coach at Glendale, the Falcons were ranked among the top ten teams in Class 4A twelve times and reached the 4A semifinals twice ('86 & '90). They won eight Ozark conference championships and six district titles. In addition, Glendale had a 42-game home winning streak ('88-'91), captured the 1994 Bass Pro Shops Tournament of Champions title, and became the first boys team in southwest Missouri to ever receive a national/regional ranking in his final season ('98-'99).

Steve Hesser came to Glendale in the summer of 1999 from Stillwater, Oklahoma. Coach Hesser had built a strong record in the Sooner state with stops at Pauls Valley, Bartlesville, and Stillwater. He played football and basketball at Stillwater High and continued his athletic career at the New Mexico Military Academy and the University of Central Oklahoma.
After starting his coaching career at Pauls Valley High for four years, he was a graduate assistant on Billy Tubbs staff at Oklahoma University during the '84-'85 season.
Next, he returned to the high school ranks at Bartlesville High. Sporting a 147-47 overall record in seven seasons, Coach Hesser's teams won three Oklahoma 6A state championships ('89, '91 &' 92) and also finished second once ('88).
His Bartlesville Bruins ran into Mike Keltner's Glendale teams a couple of times in non-conference tournaments. Hesser's team won the first encounter, but lost the second.
He moved up to the NCAA Div. I level as an assistant coach at Western Illinois University in 1992, but family issues (his Mother and Father were dealing with cancer) led him to return to his alma mater in Stillwater. In six seasons there, he had an 87-62 record. One of his players at Stillwater was current St. Louis Cardinal Matt Holliday.
In his four years at Glendale, the Falcons averaged nearly twenty wins per season, shared the 2001 Ozark Conference championship and won the program's fourteenth district championship in 2003. Arguably, Coach Hesser's top moment came when his squad stunned second ranked Kickapoo 66-63 after being down 31-19 at halftime.
Coach Hesser stepped down as head coach at Glendale to take over as head mentor at Drury University in Springfield. He has continued his winning ways with the Panthers by winning over .70% of his games and making several NCAA Div. II National Tournament appearances. In 2007, he was elected to the Oklahoma Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, and in 2011 he was inducted into the Bartlesville Athletic Hall of Fame.
In 2013, his Drury Panthers(31-4) won the NCAA Div. II National Championship by defeating Metro State 74-73, finished the season winning 23 straight games and he was named NCAA Div. II National Coach of the Year!
On April 26th, 2014, Coach Hesser was inducted into the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame!
On February 10th, 2022, Coach Hesser was inducted into the Missouri Sports Gall of Fame!

He was SWCL Coach of the Year twice (2008 & 2010).
He left Clever in 2012 to take over as head coach at Branson High. He was voted 2012-13 Central Ozark Conference Coach of the Year.
Southwest Missouri Basketball named Brian the 2013-14 Ozark Conference Coach of the Year.
